she's all that.....and more

Chelsea looks like the most beautiful, confident and well put together girl but she has moments where she suffers from low self esteem. The end of the school term brought about a fit of self doubt. Her school report was excellent, she's doing so well in all her subjects, but she was disappointed not to receive any special awards. She was so upset and started to say all these horrible things about herself that are so untrue. It was really upsetting to hear her speak about herself in that way and I got mad, which was absolutely the worst way to handle her.

Later that night she came in and laid on top of my bed and we had a really good talk. I apologised for yelling at her and I told her it was okay to be upset and have a good wallow in self pity tonight, but that tomorrow was a fresh start. She's so good, she had to be up at 5am the next day to go to camp with the little Calisthenics girls, she helps coach. She called me from camp at 10am and I was so relieved to hear she was back to her normal happy self again.

Honestly can't properly describe how proud I am of this girl. Love you, Chel.

You are fabulous

Fabulous close up

The tag is an actual fashion garment tag for the label "living doll". I wrote the words on scraps of paper and masking tape, then threaded ribbons through the eyelet and used the tiny safety pin (came with the tag) to attach it to the lace on my page.

blast from the past

I saw a photo in my sister Jenny's facebook album on the weekend and it brought back a flood of memories about how much I hero worshipped her when I was a child. She is only 6 years older than me and when she left home I was still a kid of 11. I thought she seemed so grown up and sophisticated! Every time she'd come home from the city to visit us, I'd try and copy her hairstyle or change my wardrobe to include her latest fashion trends. I wanted to be just like her.

I stole the pic and scrapped it straight away. (So that would be LO #4 for the year!)

This is one of those, use scraps and don't use scissors kinda pages, where you just rip it, sand it and slap it down on paper, no stressing about placement, straight lines and perfection. yes!

Truth be told I'm still a little envious of my big sister, well especially right now as she is on my dream holiday, travelling around Italy, France and England......sigh

Thanks for visiting. :)

only 8 more to go

I decided to give myself a totally achievable scrapbooking target this year, so if I scrap more than 10 layouts I'll be happy. Totally do-able! haha

Sometimes I think my kids need to reminded of all the good things they have going for them. I love how when you scrap about this kind of stuff it's recorded permanently for them to see forever, so if they don't always listen to you, at least they can see it on a scrapbook page. I always leave my latest creations out on display around the house until the next page comes along too (which means that sometimes a page will be left out on display for months...haha).

One of my favourite things to do is to gather some cool ready made embellishments, alter them a little and make them into a "bunch".

............................................

This LO was created one evening last week when I finally stopped ignoring the urge to create something and just did it! I grabbed a stack of fun pretty supplies and a paper sandwich bag (another favourite product to use atm) and made a page to celebrate the little things in life that make me happy. On this particular day it was: a shiny new washing machine, working from home, a honey joy on my notepad, a cute little chipboard bird and I discovered mini cans of diet coke at the supermarket! All totally insignificant and superficial, but made me smile with happiness just the same.....

Made me smile today

Can you see all the found objects and packaging products I used on this page? I folded a section of the paper bag over and hid the photos and journaling underneath.

5 small things

It was fun to make lots of "bunches" of embellishments on this LO.

Very small indeed

So, that brings my annual scrapbook layout to a grand total of 3, 8 more LO's and I'll have officially achieved my goal! haha

i love how a laptop keeps you warm in winter

Harry haircut

On a whim I decided to get Harry's luscious locks cut while we were shopping the other day. I explained to the hairdresser to cut it like Chace Crawford. She was a young girl and she gave me a knowing smile so I assumed she knew who I was talking about. For those of you who have been living under a rock (or don't have a teenage daughter living in your house) Chace Crawford is a gorgeous young actor from the TV show Gossip Girl.

The hairdresser was a lovely girl, she was really sweet with Harry, but I watched as his hair got shorter and shorter, and the clippers came out, and then Chelsea and I were chatting, and the next thing we saw was very short spiky hair! He looked so different, but still way cute, so I shrugged my shoulders and moved on.

On the weekend, we were watching the Sunday Footy Show when Chelsea says "Hey, that's exactly like Harry's hair!" It was Shane Crawford the ex Hawthorn footy player! Suddently....a moment of clarity. When I said Chace Crawford, the hairdresser heard Shane Crawford! (Must be a Hawthorn supporter, haha).

Now just for the record (and your viewing pleasure)...Chace Crawford

a tale of two siblings

If I haven't already told this story before....

IMG_0945

Disaster struck a few weeks ago when Chelsea handed her art folio to Harry to carry home for her on the train. It contained her entire year's (Year 12) Visual Communications work and an exercise book full of French notes.

The day it happened she handled it really well, very maturely actually. The Chelsea of old would have totally lost it, screamed at Harry and disappeared to her room for the week, but she did none of that. She actually accepted that she shouldn't have given it to him in the first place.

So then began the campaign to try and get it back. We rang Connex (train service) and were told that there would be no one in the office 'til Monday, so call back then. Which we did and then called them every single week day for the next two weeks, but no one had handed it in.

Last week, determined not to give in, we stepped up the campaign and decided to write a letter to the local paper. We sent off the letter and got a call from a journalist the next day, they decided to run a story on it and even came out to the school to take Chelsea's photo (she loved that)

They ran the story in the local paper this week and guess what?......We got it back!!!

A wonderful good samaritan called Lucy saw someone with it at Cheltenham Station. They were in the process of throwing out the contents, when the quick thinking student saw what it was and said "excuse me, that's mine". She tried to hand it in to the Station staff, but they told her she would have to take it in to the city, so she took it home, not knowing what to do next. Luckily a friend of hers saw the article in the paper and she called Peter with the good news!

We are so thrilled, beyond words! Chelsea is so happy and relieved to have it back. It was due in for assessment this Friday, but her teacher has given her an extention 'til Tuesday to put it back together again.

Faith in humanity completely restored.

.....................................................

The other sibling is not so happy. He's been having to do major catch up work on all his homework and he's been really struggling with the responsibilities of high school. His handwriting remains a major handicap, but I never worry about his intelligence. The other day I was tidying up where he'd been working on his homework and found a sentence written above the banner of a newspaper he must have been leaning on. It said "My life is odious to the extreme!" Scrawled in his usual, terrible handwriting, but spelled perfectly. I love him. Wish I could make his life better for him. (You know, less extremely odious..lol)

So stuck on my fridge right now....A tale of two siblings "Chelsea hasn't lost hope" and "My life is odious to the extreme".

This Motherhood gig is crazy hard. ;)

That's what happens when you get organized early. doh!

Don't worry babe, I'll write something in it for you to find when you get home from work. hehe

bigger isn't always better

Picture 047

Popped into Riot art & craft on Saturday and couldn't resist purchasing these 2"x3" canvases. I found some lovely paint and since I was already there, I thought I may as well take a look around. (wink)

I don't know what I'm going to do with them, but little projects like these are quick and effective, a bit like taking a pill to cure my itch to create. haha

..........................................

It's nice to take a break from endless sequin sewing. I just did a whole stack more sewing on this costume this evening (photo taken this afternoon).

fun! fun! fun!
